General Category- the new backward class

raman's_voice
I am totally exasperated. Soon the world renowned institutes in india - the IITs & IIMs would be the harbour for all those who still feel themselves as backward and incapable to compete with their counterparts who look alike them , just with a slight difference in their last name- the caste. Wait, let me go back to the books of civics where we came to know about SCs or STs or Harijans as gandhiji used to call them. No doubt, they needed upliftment but it has been 60 years now. Are'nt they still capable? We are taught in our school not to practice casteism but this is what our government is doing . Why to give anyone a special treatment? If you are reserving seats for them are'nt you telling them all the time that they are below standard. Its like giving money to a beggar - since you can't earn it , take it in charity. Even if they get those admissions , jobs, they are constantly reminded at their workplace about their low standard and referred to as SCs. Nobody seems to realise the fact that knowledge is gained by a person's will to learn it. It has got nothing to with caste. What people argue is that these people don have access to good schools, they can't afford education. So would'nt it be better to provide them the infrastructure.Where is all the money going which our government spends on shiksha abhiyans? I think it all goes in the bellies of politicians and to make the situation even more worse we have a new bunch of people who feel socially inflicted - the OBC(other backward caste). 'Backward' , i don understand in what sense.

The recent proposal put by HRD to increase the reservation upto 49.5% is to give general category a status of backward caste. Obviously, after this it would be 50-50. Mr Arjun Singh , i think i have a better plan. Why don't you jot down all the castes in india and divide the seats amongst them according to their population? When you can't put everyone in general category ,let's make everyone backward, atleat that would be a less biased decision. I don't have much idea about backward classes but i know a one in my native state- the jats. These people own acres of land and can easily afford to educate their children but everyone in india wants to have a jugad - to make their work simple.See the politics behind all this . These people have come up with a proposal but not yet passed as they know its illict and with elections on head non one wants to take risk of the oppositon. Opposition - not from other political parties as they also know these people form a major part of their vote bank.

Sometimes i think that the way they are uplifting these people , a day would come when all the people excluding- SCs , STs, OBCs would be termed as the backward class.
